BAE Systems announced on 22 September 2026 that it has delivered two concept infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the US Army in April to support its Transformation in Contact (TiC) 2.0 initiative. The vehicles, which comprise Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) platforms featuring Kongsberg Medium Caliber Turrets (MCTs), and are thus referred to as AMPV 30s, were developed using USD 17 million (EUR 14.9 million) of BAE systems internal research and development funding.

Since their delivery, the TiC unit has run the AMPV 30s through rigorous field evaluations, including live-fire testing, “benchmarking the platforms’ capabilities against what soldiers require to maintain advantage on the modern battlefield”, BAE Systems stated.

Both AMPV 30s are equipped with common top plates that mount the Kongsberg MCT, which is a compact and lightweight remote turret currently in production to equip the ACV-30 variants within the US Marine Corps’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle fleet.

A rapid AMPV delivery

BAE Systems noted in its press release that, due to modular and open architecture design of the AMPV chassis combined with use of the company’s common top plate, the development of the AMPV 30s took only six months from initiation of the project to delivery to the army.

Bill Sheehy, vice president of BAE Systems’ Ground Maneuver futures business, was quoted as stating, “Our mission was speed and innovation, and we delivered beyond expectations. With today’s battlefield evolving faster than ever, it’s paramount that soldiers have the capabilities they need to win the fight. Throughout this effort, our team demonstrated how we can integrate new design solutions in a time-effective and more cost-efficient manner for the army.”

The two AMPV 30s mean that BAE Systems has now produced eight turreted AMPV prototypes over the last two years to support the US Army’s modernisation efforts.
