On 12 June 2026 BAE Systems unveiled its Next Generation Indirect Fire Control System, designed to enhance the precision, speed and connectivity of modern artillery operations, and will showcase the new capability at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition, being held in Paris from 15 to 19 June.
The weapon-agnostic system is designed to support artillery crews at the point of fire, providing a modern digital fire control system that enables faster targeting, improved accuracy and enhanced operational awareness. The capability supports the delivery of indirect fires while connecting individual guns with wider sensor and effector networks – including data from forward observers, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites and command-and-control (C2) networks – to allow fire control data to move seamlessly across operations.
Built around an open-architecture approach, the system has been designed to integrate with a wide range of both legacy and future artillery platforms and digital environments, allowing operators to incorporate sensors, C2 systems and other effectors as part of a connected ecosystem.
While the system supports automated gun-laying systems, legacy guns can receive fire instructions via a tablet, allowing gun crews to manually input fire corrections.
The system’s flexible architecture also supports future upgrades, enabling armed forces to evolve their fire control capabilities over time without requiring significant changes to existing equipment. The system will ultimately move from a man-in-the-loop configuration to a man-on-the-loop capability.
In an online press briefing prior to the unveiling of the system, BAE Systems stated that it will conduct another six months of development before trialling it with a real gun and giving a demonstration to customers by the end of 2026.
The company added that it is also looking at incorporating feedback from muzzle velocity radars to make fires even more accurate.
