Singapore’s ST Engineering used the 2026 Eurosatory defence exhibition, held in Paris from 15 to 19 June, to introduce its new family of assault rifles to the European market.
First unveiled at the Singapore Airshow in February 2026, the new family of weapons is chambered in the 5.56×45 mm NATO calibre and is based around the baseline AME-A514 assault rifle, which is built to an AR-type design with direct gas impingement rather than a gas piston as the firing mechanism. The range complements ST Engineering’s latest range of bullpup weapons based around the baseline AME-B514.
While the baseline AME-A514 has a 14.5-inch (368 mm) barrel length that gives a muzzle velocity of 850 m/s and an effective range of 460 m, the other weapons in the range include the AME-A510 (with a 10.5-inch barrel), the AME-A516 (16-inch barrel and AME-A520 (20-inch barrel). According to ST Engineering literature the AME-A510 produces a muzzle velocity of 770 m/s and offers an effective range of 180 m, the AME-A120 produces a muzzle velocity of 920 m/s and offers an effective range of 650 m.
At Eurosatory 2026 the AME-A516 on display, an AME-A516L model, featured a heat sink to dissipate extreme thermal energy during sustained firing.
Unloaded weights and dimensions for the weapons given by ST Engineering range from 2.6 kg for the AME-A510 with lengths of 700 mm (with buttstock retracted) and 750 mm (butt extended), to 2.7 kg for the AME-A514 with lengths of 820 mm (retracted) and 870 mm (extended), and 3.2 kg for the AME-A520 with lengths of 940 mm (retracted) and 990 mm (extended).
All weapons in the range are switchable from safe mode to either semi- or fully automatic fire, while their rate of fire is given as between 700 and 950 rds/min.
Features common to the AME assault rifle range include fully ambidextrous controls, a two-stage trigger for enhanced control, see-through magazines for easy round awareness, barrel harmonics “that are tuned to balance weapon stability and weight”, a six-position adjustable buttstock and what ST Engineering describes as “better weapon control ergonomics”.
An ST Engineering spokesman told Warsight at Eurosatory 2026 that the development of the AME assault rifle range, which was company funded, was completed this year. He added that the Singaporean armed forces are the obvious potential client for the weapons, while explaining that they were not developed to address any specific requirement.
