Rheinmetall is delivering artillery ammunition to Ukraine from its new ‘Werk Niedersachsen’ (Lower-Saxony plant) facility in Unterlüß for the first time, the company announced on 14 July 2026. Until now deliveries had come from other sites within the Rheinmetall production network.

This first delivery from Unterlüß to Ukraine comprises a low-five-figure number of projectiles, in addition to propellant charges from other sites. More than half of the order has already been delivered, with the remaining projectiles and propellant charges due to follow by the end of 2026.

In July 2026 Rheinmetall announced that a NATO state has commissioned it to supply several thousand 155 mm artillery shells and propellant charges to Ukraine, although these are being manufactured by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions in Spain, with the associated DM72 modular propellant charges being supplied by Nitrochemie from sites in Wimmis, Switzerland, and Aschau, Germany.

The RH1412 projectiles being delivered to Ukraine are the latest product in Rheinmetall’s artillery portfolio. They can be fired from various 155 mm weapon systems and offer a long range and high effectiveness, according to Rheinmetall, which has continued to invest heavily in expanding its capacity to produce large-calibre ammunition ever since the Ukraine War began in 2022.
